Marie Dionne Warwick, is the United Nation’s Global Ambassador for Food and Agricultural Associations and the United States of America’s Ambassador for Health. For us she is one of the recognised R&B and Soul female singer.
Dionne, like Aretha started singing in the church. As a teenager she formed a Gospel group called The Gospelaires. The members of the trio were Dionne, her late sister Della “Dee Dee,” Warwick and Whitney Houston’s mother Cissy Houston. Other members of the group were Judy Clay, and Doris Troy. Both Doris and Dionne would leave the group for solo careers and the group would change its name to The Sweet Inspiration and go on to achieve great success.
Dionne’s career as a solo artist really took off when she met Burt Bacharach and Hal David. One of her earlier releases was the song “I Say A Little Prayer,” written by Bacharach and David.
My next selection is the title song from her second album.
Let’s listen to Dionne Warwick with “Heartbreaker.”
