As mentioned in my last post Marsha Wash and Izora Armstead became Two Tons Of Fun and backup singers for Sylvester. Before that event however, they performed in a Gospel group known as “Now,”that was an Acronym for News Of The World.
When Sylvester was auditioning for new backup singers, Marsha tried out and got the job. Sylvester asked her if she knew anyone else in the big girl size that could also sing. Marsha introduced him to her group mate Izora Armstead and the duo named themselves Two Tons Of Fun.
They released two albums for Harvey Fuqua’s label that charted three hits. It was when they switched to Columbia Records that they changed their name to The Weather Girls and had their biggest success.
Let us listen to The Weather Girls with “It’s Raining Men.”
