My next selection artist is Ralph Tresvant, an original member of the boy band New Edition.
Ralph was born in Chicago enjoying the music of the day. When three of his schoolmates Bobby Brown, Ricky Bell and Michael Bivins had the vision of putting a group together Ralph was in.
The name New Edition was coined by the group’s first manager Brooke Payne and was to reflect that this new boy band was just that a new edition of the Jackson 5. They were signed to StreetWise Records by Maurice Starr and a fifth member Ronnie Devoe was added to the group.
The group left Maurice Starr’s label over a dispute about money. They signed with MCA Records who released their second album.
Ralph was featured as the lead on several of the New Edition songs on the album. The group continued to release great songs, but Ralph always felt he was not getting the full recognition so, in 1990, he decided to go solo.
His first album was titled “Sensitivity,”
Let us listen to Ralph Tresvant with the title song “Sensitivity.”
