I am ending this week’s selection with a very popular group, The Commodores, when Lionel Richie was a member. The group came together in the late 1960s while the members were still in college and broke their teeth in so to speak performing on the college circuit. At that time they were known as The Mighty Mystics. They later changed the name to The Commodores, after looking through the dictionary.
After exhausting the venues around Tuskegee, the group decided to try the “Big Apple.” It was while playing in New York that the Commodores were discovered and signed a talent agent named Benny Ashburn who became their manager.
With Ashburn as their manager, the group signed with Motown Records, where they became the opening act for artists like the Jackson 5. Their first album “Machine Guns,” would establish The Commodores as a crowd pleaser and they began to see their name up on the marquees as the headliner.
Let us close of the session with The Commodores singing “Too Hot To Trot.”
I think this selection is exactly what my mind, soul and body needed on a rainy Friday in Toronto. Hope you enjoyed it like I did presenting it to you.
Have a great start to the weekend and I will catch you on “Soulful Sunday.”
